What you need to know

Bupa administers the medical plan, which is 100% company-paid for you and your family. This means PayPal pays the cost of the policy, but you pay tax on the medical policy amount. You can cover your spouse/partner and children (until the renewal following their 24th birthday), regardless of disability or educational status. All regular employees, fixed-term contractors (on the PayPal payroll), and interns are eligible for the plan.

What the plan covers

The Bupa medical plan provides extensive cover for eligible conditions and treatments to help you get back to health as quickly as possible:

  • Outpatient cover for consultations, therapies, and diagnostic services*
  • Inpatient cover for eligible treatment*
  • Cancer cover*
  • Mental health cover*

* Charges covered subject to the benefit limits of your policy with a Bupa-recognised consultant, therapist, or complementary practitioner, in a Bupa-recognised facility.

We’ve gone fully digital. Bupa Touch provides information on how to request treatment, access our digital general practitioner (provided by Babylon), and find a Bupa consultant or facility.

Joining the plan

During the onboarding process, you’ll be asked to complete the necessary forms to join the plan. After you’re enrolled, you’ll receive an email from Bupa with information on how to sign up for Bupa Touch, where you will find plan details, your membership number, and more.

Costs

Your Bupa medical plan is 100% paid for by PayPal. However, it’s a taxable benefit, which means that while the company pays the cost for the policy, you are liable to pay tax on the amount of the benefit.

When you need medical treatment

As this is an open-referral scheme, always call the Bupa helpline before arranging any treatments or consultations. The consultant must be Plan-approved; otherwise, you will not be able to file a claim for the treatment.
