Individual Vocational Leave
Employees who want to attend a vocational training for things such as to attend lessons, to prepare and take an exam, or to draft a thesis can do so.
Receive up to 80 days of Vocational Leave during the entire tenure of your career in Luxembourg. A few things to know:
- You cannot ask for Vocational Leave during the first 6 months of your employment at PayPal
- You can take a maximum of 20 days in a 2-year period (the 2-year period begins with the year of the first individual training leave)
- PayPal may postpone your Vocational Leave if the timing of it will cause a negative impact on the business
- You can only apply to eligible courses (in Luxembourg and abroad). You will need to provide proof of your attendance to the requested training

Request Individual Vocational Leave
To apply for this leave, follow the instructions:
- Download the official “Request for training leave” (for employees) application form on the website of the Ministry of Ministry of National Education, Childhood and Youth or from guichet.lu
- To get approval from PayPal, please submit your form via a HR Hub ticket. Your HR consultant will contact you.
- Once it has been approved by PayPal, you will need to send your form with required documents to the Ministry

Lifelong learning
As an employee, you may be required to participate in vocational training that aligns with the needs of the business. This should be discussed with your manager.

Unpaid Vocational Leave
If you’ve been with PayPal at least 2 years, you are eligible to take an unpaid leave for vocational reasons.
A few things to know:
- The cumulative duration of unpaid leave is 2 years maximum, with a minimum of 4 consecutive weeks and a maximum of 6 weeks for each leave
- Your leave must be aligned with the duration of training
- Depending on the circumstances, PayPal can reject the request or postpone the leave
- Your study must be at a Luxembourg institution that’s recognized by public authorities and issues certificates recognized by these same authorities. This includes public or private colleges, universities or higher education institutions.
Request Unpaid Vocational Leave
To request an unpaid vocational leave, please send a registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt to PayPal, attention Human Resources, and indicate the type of training, duration of training, the training organization and the days sought for leave. You must also open a HR Hub ticket and include a copy of your letter. Include a statement in the letter that stipulates if PayPal doesn’t respond within 30 days of the receiving the application, acceptance of the leave is implied. Be sure to:
- Give at least 2 months of notice for a desired leave of less than 2 months
- Give at least 4 months of notice for a desired leave of 3 months or more
PayPal may refuse to grant your leave request if these guidelines are not followed, under conditions provided by law.
